Trauma Sensitive Yoga 

In this episode you will learn about trauma, how common it is and how yoga practices and specific styles of trauma sensitive yoga classes can be highly useful in helping people develop stronger coping tools for trauma and also regulate their nervous system away from its regular triggering of the stress and fear mode.  

Shirley Hicks is a Somatic Psychotherapist as well as a yoga teacher in the Dru tradition.  She has worked in the field of trauma for over 25 years.  She helped launch Trauma Sensitive Yoga Australia with her business partner Annabel McLiskey.  

We discuss a general understanding of trauma as well as some of the challenges trauma sufferers might encounter when attending a regular yoga class.  We talk about how to adapt a regular class to help people feel choice and agency.  We also discuss the specific style of trauma sensitive yoga that is often done in one on one or small group classes.
